Some of our favorite campaigns don’t come out of big corporations, but from local businesses run by dedicated friends and neighbors. TNBANK’s Nadine Herron has reinvigorated the bank’s excitement and passion for giving and has already seen incredible results!
Nadine was facing some tough odds for the 2017-18 UWAC Campaign. Last year, TNBANK’s campaign raised $3500 and employee giving through payroll deduction was at just 10%. Choosing to focus on employee engagement, Nadine set the campaign goal at just $4000 but strove to raise employee giving to 50%. She was intimidated by the goals she had set, but was also motivated to succeed by personal reasons. “My mother was a single mom for as long as I can remember, and she did a great job raising us. But she still needed some help. We lived in a homeless shelter that partnered with another company that helped us get an apartment. I feel like United Way does the same things – they help the community by giving what people can’t get on their own.”
Nadine had no reason to worry. Within a week, TNBANK employees had exceeded the campaign goal. Employees were invited to be a part of a team effort that reached every level of the company. For example, Senior Vice President to Retail Banking Leslie England baked and sold 36 apple pies to raise money. Other campaign events included a staff spirit week and a company ‘yard sale’ that kept energy and morale high. Not only has TNBANK’s employee giving increased, their campaign total was over $3000 higher than last year.
We love local campaigns like TNBANK’s, because they show us how much people care for their community. Inspired by her own history, Nadine, in turn, inspired and motivated her coworkers, who rose to the challenge spectacularly. Their teamwork and generosity mean so much to Anderson County and to United Way. Thank you to everyone at TNBANK and all of our local businesses for helping us make a difference!
