To support COVID-19 efforts, we are supporting quarantine and isolation facilities across the country, when requested. Working with community partners, we are also helping provide food and supplies to hard-hit families and communities, including healthcare professionals.• SERVICE TO THE ARMED FORCES: We’re still supporting and caring for service members, veterans and their families during this crisis, providing ongoing 24/7 emergency communications at a greater volume through our Hero Care Center, COVID-19- specific online courses and virtual animal visitations to help with stress management, and virtual townhalls to deliver our “Get to Know Us Before You Need Us” pre-deployment briefings.

Stitchers needed
Calling All Stitchers!
We are requesting some adult size, homemade, cloth face masks for one of the Nursing Homes in Oak Ridge. As you know, our current supply has dwindled and restocking will take time that we don’t have.
The Nurses and CNAs would be appreciative of any masks you may make for them.
It would be great to get at least 50 or more washable masks for this facility. And more facilities are being added to the list.
If interested, here is a website with pattern from another medical facility.
Please note, we are in need of adult size only.

Girls Inc. Services during COVID-19
Despite the fact that our center based and outreach programs are not running in a traditional sense, our staff is continually working to make sure that girls have
access to programs and necessary resources for them to continue to be strong, smart, and bold.
We are developing programs and food boxes that can be delivered to the homes of girls and families in need. These boxes include nonperishable food items, snacks, books, and educational programming activities, and materials. We want to ensure that despite the fact that girls may not be able to attend traditional programs, they still have resources to thrive during this time.
At Girls Inc. of TN Valley, we are also working diligently to develop virtual resources to keep us in contact with girls in the community. We are running online coding classes every Friday at 2:00pm where girls can not only work their brains, but connect with their friends and peers for some fun STEM lessons. We are also developing online yoga classes for girls to participate in, and we will update our website and social media pages with more information when we have those details.
For more information on programming and food boxes, or to participate in the online coding classes, please contact Alanna Kosier at akosier@girlsinctnv.org.

Legal Aid Society
The COVID-19 pandemic has called into focus a need for flexibility in the way we do our work. Until further notice, LAS staff are working remotely and moving upcoming events, like legal clinics, to a digital space to ensure the safety of our community. Like many organizations, the Legal Aid Society (LAS) is navigating the changing landscape day by day.
Between the tornadoes and COVID-19, business and court closures, we are preparing to see a massive influx of cases over the coming weeks. Our staff are working hard to keep up with these cases as they come in – and most importantly, we want our clients, potential clients and partners to know we are here and ready, whenever they need us.
During times of disaster the vulnerable populations we serve—the poor, the elderly, the disabled —are impacted first and hardest. We understand this and have a dedicated staff committed to meeting the needs of our clients. If you know someone who needs legal help, please refer them to us at (865) 483-8454.
Please remember:
- We are open for business. We’ve taken several proactive measures to address the challenges that COVID-19 brings and avoid any disruption to our services. Please reach out to your local Legal Aid office with questions and concerns. Callers will be able to leave a message and receive a call from an intake specialist or attorney within 48 hours.
- We are changing the format of our legal clinics. All legal clinics are being conducted by phone. Please click here for an updated listing of LAS Legal Clinics. Callers can expect to speak with an intake specialist and an attorney over the phone during the designated clinic times.
Please call 865-483-8454 for any questions.
